The Studio

Santa Barbara Jewelry Arts Studio located in Room 8 at 300 N. Turnpike Rd., Santa Barbara, CA 93111 .

Santa Barbara boasts one of the nation's most diverse and affordable continuing education programs for adults.  Our Jewelry Arts Studio is a world class instructional facility for jewelry fabrication and casting, metalsmithing, and lapidary arts.

Courses for aspiring jewelers of all abilities are taught by highly qualified, friendly community jewelers. Beginners welcome, and Santa Barbara residency is not required.  Please see http://www.sbcc.edu/ce to register for classes, or stop by when classes are in session for a tour.

This magnificent studio features:

  • Bench space for 24 students with Bench-Mate compatible bench-pins and shared  flex shafts (4:6 ratio).
  • 8 professionally vented soldering stations
  • Video camera at the instructor's bench and LCD monitors at each student bench for easy viewing/recording of the lesson demonstration or other digital teaching media.
  • 24 tool boxes outfitted with quality hand tools: jewelers saw, files, pliers, cutters, hammers & mallets
  • More shared specialty hand tools, burs, bits, Bench Mate clamps, forming tools, digital calipers
  • An outdoor area for casting, polishing & lapidary work: 3 polishing lathes, magnetic and rotary tumblers, ultrasonic cleaner, centrifugal and vacuum casting systems, hydrogen torch, stone cutting & polishing equipment, bead/sand blaster, belt sanders, drill presses, and more anvils than you can shake your hammers at.
  • 2 rolling mills
  • Multiple kilns for casting, enameling & PMC
  • 2 hydraulic presses for forming & texturing
  • 2 large sink areas for cleaning up
  • sheet metal cutters
  • Expendables: saw blades, solder, flux, polishing compound, patinas
  • MUCH MORE than I've mentioned here 
All materials (precious and nonprecious metals, gemstones, finding)  are provided and included in the materials fee for courses unless otherwise indicated.  Unlike many jewelry schools which require that you purchase your supplies individually, this allows you the benefit of bulk supply purchase discounts. Note that expendables such as saw blades and solder are also provided.  This is an incredible resource provided at an unheard of value, and all of it will go away if you don't sign up for classes to support and use our studio!
